The support and involvement of
cooperative shareholders ensures that the Co-op remains strong and a
responsive community. As shareholders of a cooperative we can affect
our community, both within our own organization and in the
community-at-large.
Therefore, it is the policy of the
co-op to encourage member labor by awarding discounts to shareholders
who work in the store or on approved committee projects. In addition, a
nominal discount is offered to non-working shareholders who support the
co-op through buying shares.
The amount of discount varies. At the
present, shareholders participate in the discount privilege according
to the following scale:
- 2% - Non-working shareholders who
are up to date with their share payments.
- 8% - Monthly shareholders
who work 3 hours a month plus 1 hour for each additional adult in a
household.
- 24% - Weekly shareholders who work
3 hours a week plus 1 hour per week for each additional adult in a
household.
- 5% non-working shareholders who are
senior citizens (65 years old and over)
The 2% discount takes effect
immediately after you purchase your share--just show the cashier your
receipt until your membership card arrives in the mail. Member labor
discounts take effect on the first day of the month after the member
has completed the work requirement.
