The HWFC Board of Directors met on Tuesday, November 3.
Consultant Services Presentation
A representative from Cooperative Board Leadership Development, a consulting firm for coops, discussed services available from this group and took questions from Board members.
Collective Management Team Evaluation
The Board has received staff comments on the Collective Management Team's performance. Input from members will be solicited after the New Year.
Web-based Orientation
In the past, there had been discussion of developing a web-based orientation for new members. There were mixed feelings about it when the concept was presented at a membership meeting in 2008. The Board will ask the Communications committee to revisit this possibility.
Website
The Communications committee is looking at a number of concerns about the Co-op's website.
Co-op Non-profit Group
The non-profit group being set up by the Co-op has been formed. Its board can now go ahead and hold its first meeting.
Fundraising for New Store
The difficulties of tabling to raise money for the new store were discussed. A Google calendar will be developed to make signing up for staffing the table easier and more space will be devoted to this purpose. Other ideas on fundraising were also discussed.
Membership
The Board received another request to increase the senior discount. This request needs some further clarification before it can be more fully discussed by the Membership committee.
Parking
The Board approved renting 30 additional parking spaces near National Supply.
Strategic Planning
The staff's strategic plan, from the Staff Structure Work Group, was distributed to the Board. This was an informational report and was well-received.
Committee Hours
In order to develop committee budgets and to plan for the future, it is necessary to know how many member hours are being used by committees.

The Board will ask the membership coordinator to provide a report on member hours used by each committee this year. The Coop's chief financial officer will be asked to indicate the amount deducted for each committee's work in this year's budget.
Scheduling Executive Sessions
It was noted that if the Board knows in advance that an executive session is needed, this should be included in the meeting's agenda. The template for the minutes will include a section for executive session with a Yes/No prompt to improve this.
Minutes
Minutes of all meetings are available at the Co-op. Minutes of the most recent meeting are posted on the bulletin board. They are also available on the Co-op's website, as password protected files. See instructions on the Board Meetings page
Upcoming Meetings
Currently, Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:45 pm in the Co-op's Community Room. However, dates change on occasion so anyone planning to attend a meeting should confirm date, time, and location.
